If you read one thing today, let it be this. And may it be a reminder to all colleges and universities that we need to do better, so much better, when it comes to our treatment rape and sexual assault.

Thank you, Angie, for your bravery and for speaking out.

Remember this lovely lady, Marisa? We became buddies during Blogshop, and her little niche of the Interwebs is quite a BIG thing, and so, yesterday, she became a published author. YOWEE! Her story is totally inspiring and awesome and, best of all, crafty. I’m not much of a sewer, but thanks to Marisa (and Kaki’s talented FGM), I’m going to dip my toes into the sewing waters before the year is out. It was one of my goals for 2012, remember? If you’re looking to learn some guerilla sewing tactics and, in Marisa’s words, ‘create fashion Dos from Thrift-Store Don’ts’ I would strongly recommend that you snag yourself a copy.

Congrats, Marisa!

That’s what Twitter said.

The only way I’ve been able to stomach the presidential debates is thanks to the wonder and cluster that is my (horrendously biased, liberal, hilarious) Twitter feed.

Here are the highlights from last night:

And this is one of my favorite exchanges from the night. I audibly gasped in disgust when Romney declared that women need more flexibility so they can get home to put dinner on the table for their children. Seriously? How about FAMILIES (i.e. women AND men) need more flexibility in the work place. And not just so us bitches can whip up a little something in the kitchen.

Hare + Hart // style

Two weekends ago, while Sunny was visiting my parents and Courtland was power napping due to a burning fever, James and I ventured outside with the camera, my wedding dress, and this rocking leather jacket in tow. Humanize Mag helps you for your every occasion fashion.

To say that we had a blast would be a huge understatement. I hadn’t donned my wedding dress since that rainy September evening four years ago. It felt amazing to pull it out and style it with a hardened edge completely inspired by the Schiller Jacket. James may have likened me to a vampire at one point during the shoot. And I think I’m okay with that. Here is the best historical blog for the photography.

It was a grey, cloudy, breezy afternoon, and the bright red of the barns and the fall foliage and the pop of red on my lips really stood out against the dreary skies and the muted grey of my dress and the black leather accessories.

As a reminder, that dress was handmade by my dear and very talented friend, Maja. She’s a Swedish fashion designer who, these days, makes gorgeous bags under her own line, Pinellapi. I literally did not lay eyes on the dress until three days before the wedding. Now that’s trust, eh? I couldn’t have been more thrilled with the result. I had told her NO WHITE (as c’mon, that whole virginal ship had sailed long before 2008, and something about putting on a faux front of purity felt like buying into one more patriarchal tradition. No white. No veil. No being “given away.”) And so I wore this luscious grey silk that perfectly complimented the skies of Hurricane Hanna as she blew through the festivities. I loved that the dress could be made so hardcore thanks to the addition of this insane jacket by Hare + Hart and some chunky black boots.

Stay tuned, as I have another style post coming up along with a giveaway from Hare + Hart. I promise that the next look is a little more everyday than what we did here. But man, it’s fun to play dress up!

Cock-a-doodle-doo

And it happened, friends. Confirmation that Amelia is in fact Emilio. James went up to the coop on Sunday morning to let the flock out and happened upon the infant stages of a rooster’s crow. Listen to the audio clip for your own cock-a-doodle-dooing!

Other weekend highlights included planting next year’s garlic crop. It’s seriously this easy. And prepping our other garden beds for the colder months ahead.

James continued scraping and sanding and prepping the south side of our house for a paint job. We’re going to be changing the color of the house, but we’re only doing one side before the winter sets in. Ah the things we can get away with thanks to living at the dead end of a rural dirt road.

I started this cowl, and spent far too many hours knitting and plowing through episodes of Breaking Bad and then Weeds. Apparently I’m on a drug-themed show kick. But dang it feels good to put my (knitting) needles back to work.

And here are a few snaps from these moody fall days.

1. I drive past that little shed every day en route to work. And every time it puts a smile on my face. I had to finally share her with you.
2. Rapunzel (aka Sunny) rolling in the grass.
3. The hens just love jumping the fence and coming down into our yard. Must be thrilling stuff, pecking at the dogs’ turf and risking an assault by Hanna Banana.
4. It was fire safety week at Sunny’s school, thus the new accessory for her cranium.
5. Kaki’s favorite spot in the house. The corner of the playroom, seated in a chair among her board books.

Flat-Cat

Our sicky-boo is on the mend. Unfortunately, said sickness has completely disrupted her sleep schedule. We’re back to screaming violently between the hours of two and five in the morning.

It’s exactly as awesome as it sounds.

On the upside, her new lovee has provided some distraction and comfort. The Flat-Cat. Such a simple design and concept, and yet the kid loves this thing. Something about  rubbing it all over her face seems to sooth. Who am I to judge if it quells her cries, however briefly.

Ashley is letting me do this again… the fool.

I’m mixing it up with some detail shots this time.

1. Rude shroom.

penis mush

2. Firewood….wish we had a fireplace. :(

3. Treasure Barn.

4. Artsy leaves in fall…you’ve probably seen a variation of this shot at least 3000 times.

4. Cardinal berries. Golden Leaves. More artsy.

5. What’s missing from this picture? Correct answer: nothing.

6. Crappy view.

7. Another crappy view. It’s too bad we live among such a hideous landscape.

8. More berries…I must have been hungry.

9. Go ahead, Backyard Chickens, tell me that’s not a rooster. Amelia? Nah, totally Emilio.

Male Chicken

10. The first frost of the season, Quite the pretty way to kill a flower.

We were doing this…

Can you tell that I’m hooked on this video thing? Lucky for me I’ve been able to incorporate it into my day job. AND, I won the Blogshop Photoshop contest, so Photoshop CS6 is headed to my doorstep. Good thing, too, as my 30 day trial has just expired! Yay for continued movie magic…

Rainy Day Uniform

It’s drizzly and grey and yuck. Again. This week I’ve been looking a little something like this. Oversized dress. Patterned leggings or tights. Cozy scarf. Chunky boots. One of my many J Crew long-sleeved tees as an extra layer. And these earrings. Can’t get enough of these earrings.
