3rd Birthday: In Review

by Ashley Weeks Cart

It was a perfect weekend.

And I don’t say that lightly.

From the weather, to the company, to the food, to the party dresses… everything came up Cart. And it was a delight.

Once our computer is set up (we rearranged the entire downstairs thanks to the genius melding of design-oriented minds on Sunday, i.e. my mom and sister), I’ll have some non-phone photos to show for it. In the meantime, here’s a taste of the festivities.

There was much drawing and creating and experimenting with our new art supplies while bedecked in our frilly party dress.

There were family snuggles.

And there was much lawn lounging. We finally got a hint of what summers will be like on Cartwheel Farm. As Kimmy commented, “This really IS a magical place.”

We had very low key celebrations for Sunny, as I just could not bring myself to host a full party with all the disorder of the move, so our dearest friends came over, brought cake, and there was present opening, and balloons, and singing. Honestly, what else do you need?

I don’t think Sunny could have been more pleased.

We saw two pairs of close friends from college on Sunday, and gave them a tour of the new stomping grounds. We broke in the kids’ swimming pools. We ate dinner at our favorite restaurant of all time. And we lifted and moved and shuffled and organized all the furniture in the downstairs living spaces. I do not know what I do without my family on this front. We went from a home filled with boxes and furniture sitting this way and that to a fully functional and brilliantly thought out living room, play room and study. You have no idea how glorious it felt to relax in the living room yesterday evening with James, debriefing the weekend’s proceedings.

All in all, I give it two thumbs up. Fine holiday fun.
