Blog a la Cart

Hello?

We have been singing Adele’s latest single ad nauseam chez Cart (I have a feeling our family is not alone in this). This SNL sketch absolutely killed me. While my family of liberal, Vermont socialists will likely be on the same page during Thanksgiving supper, we may just break out in song for the love of Adele.

Prepare to be mesmerized. Absolutely breathtaking…

Birds Say

A wonderfully exciting day for our beloved, talented friends, Darlingside.

Go take a listen to their new album, and purchase. Because it’s too dang good to not.

So very proud of them.

While driving in the car the other day, this song came on the radio. Upon its completion, Courtland exclaimed, “Mommy, that is the most beautiful song. Play it again. Please!”

And it is truly something special. I can’t stop listening to it, especially because it’s touched my preschooler’s heart so.

And the video! And the dancing! And swoon swoon swoon!

Last night, the four of danced dramatically around the kitchen to its tune while cooking dinner. This song will forever bring back that memory of why all of this – these people, this place, this family, that moment – are my most treasured life’s work.

Thanks to the urgings of my bestie from grad school, James and I hired a babysitter Saturday night and headed out to the Helado Negro concert at MASSMoCA. (During which, Kaki threw up all over her bedroom carpet. I guess we’ll call it a win for us parents who avoided puke clean up. But that sitter may avoid our house forevermore. Good news? It was because she ate dirty snow, and a boot and rally restored her gastrointestinal world. If I can claim that as good news? At least the rest of us more self-preserving humans in the Cart family were not at risk of infection? Question mark?).

ANYWAY! Helado Negro (Black Ice Cream!) now his music is on repeat chez Cart. And I’m dreaming of grooving around in one of those tinsel suits. A very inspired evening, and I was reminded that James and I need to do a better job of taking full advantage of the ridiculous talent happening around us on the regular. Just look at this line up?

If you’re as obsessed with the new T. Swift album as us Carts, then you’ll understand why this video is so awesome. And even if you aren’t listening to the songs ad nauseam, you’ll still think it’s pretty dang cool. That’s assuming you have a soft spot for pop music, but I’d wager we all secretly do, deep down inside, the part of your soul that can’t help but bop along to the shake shake shake of a repetitive, albeit catchy beat.

Happy Weekend, y’all!

My favorite band in The Universe

James and I went to a Darlingside show this weekend, and my cheeks hurt from smiling so damn hard for nearly 24 hours after. Truly, these guys are some of my favorite humans in the whole world. So talented. So humble. So outrageously kind. I delight in watching them delight in performing and playing together. And this youth orchestra mash up? Rad rad rad.

Of late, these three songs run on repeat chez Cart. I particularly love “All About That Bass” and the fact the singer is a native Nantucketer slash Cape Codder.

And I will forever and always love me some T.Swift. And her choice of centering the video around dance? Girl knows the way to the Ulmers’ hearts!

Sunny knows every word to this song. And sings it with gusto. Daily.

Now go, enjoy, and dance your face off!

“A portrait of my children, once a week, every week, in 2014.”

Sunny: Sunny with a chicken. Pretty standard. They are nearly full grown – bring on over a dozen eggs a day!
Kaki: It would seem that we shall have pesto all winter long! Basil Harvest 2014 was quite an aromatic success.

Welp, now I’ve had my morning cry. As if I didn’t already love and respect Colbie Caillat… thank you, you talented, beautiful woman, you.
