2015

by Ashley Weeks Cart

I hope that in this year to come, you make mistakes.

Because if you are making mistakes, then you are making new things, trying new things, learning, living, pushing yourself, changing yourself, changing your world. You’re doing things you’ve never done before, and more importantly, you’re Doing Something.

So that’s my wish for you, and all of us, and my wish for myself. Make New Mistakes. Make glorious, amazing mistakes. Make mistakes nobody’s ever made before. Don’t freeze, don’t stop, don’t worry that it isn’t good enough, or it isn’t perfect, whatever it is: art, or love, or work or family or life.

Whatever it is you’re scared of doing, Do it.

Make your mistakes, next year and forever.

2014 was one of my favorite years to date. While the larger world often felt scary and disheartening, overwhelming and cruel, my nuclear family was a constant reminder of joy, and hope, and love, and potential.

The magic of everyday moments. The beauty in simplicity.

And I want more of that.

I had illustrator Lydia Mba create a new blog header for 2015 capturing the spirit of these images and moments that best reflect our 2014 on Cartwheel Farm. They remind me of the cover of a children’s fairytale. James and I have dreamed of writing a children’s book series about our life in Vermont, so perhaps this is just the inspiration we need…

Here’s wishing you a 2015 of love and magic!
