SLOW

For the first time in forever (sweet lord I can’t help but turn every word I utter into a Frozen song – any parent with a child age 3-10 understands what I mean by that statement and opening line… ANYWAY)…

For the first time in forever (and by forever I mean, since Admission season began), James and I were able to really slow down and enjoy our weekend. It began last weekend when Maja and Lars came to visit, but James’ biggest deadline of the season was Friday morning, so now we are truly breathing a sigh of relief and catching up on the corresponding hours of sleep and family bonding.

We had a slow, lazy weekend, punctuated by naps and lounging with cups of tea in front of the wood stove and House of Cards season 2. Uncle Ted (one of James’ three brothers) came out to visit from Boston, and somehow having a guest in the house forced an even lazier, more laid back hand. No projects. No TO DO lists. We went to a Darlingside show (well, we tried to go to a Darlingside show. We arrived just as the guys were going on stage to perform and wound up in the back of an immense line outside of Goodrich Hall (like it was 2004) because apparently they are a very big deal among the Williams College student body and there was no way we were going to get inside. So we went and ate burgers and drank beer and visited with Ted who had just arrived, and then met up with the band post-show for hugs and ego-stroking. (They had no idea that the place was packed with a line to the street)). We took the girls to see the Lego movie. We went on a sleigh ride. We played in the ridiculous piles of snow. And mostly, we did a whole lot of “nothing,” which was far more meaningful than the word implies. We must do nothing more often.

^^We have Ted to thank for all of these images of our family playing in the snow. The icicles were a big hit. Apparently they inspire us to mean mug.^^
