Mountain Day // 2013

by Ashley Weeks Cart

I’m finally getting around to sharing our pictures from Mountain Day 2013. Since James is now home with the kids on Fridays, and Sunny has gymnastics on Friday mornings, I assumed that James wouldn’t try to pack in a hike, up a mountain, with two small children and a puppy.

I should never underestimate this man.

I did my usual climb with colleagues through yellowed canopies. It was moody and magical.

And when I arrived at the top, I was greeted by this scene: My daughters mowing cider donuts. We’ve taught them well. The climb is worth the reward of sugared goodness.

Even Gladden made the trek. She was the star of the occasion, with many happy college student yammering for her affection.

Laura made the climb 7 months pregnant, and then proceeded to serenade the crowd with her vocal talents as part of the celebratory musical performance. She is a champion.

We then made the walk back to the car together.

Laura and Kaki fell into mutual admiration at last year’s Mountain Day festivities. The love carries on…

This sums things up well. A familiar scene, yes?

As usual, a wonderful “holiday” to mark autumn in the Berkshires.
