The Day After

by Ashley Weeks Cart

Ursa made it through the night like a champ. The vet said that she is struggling to get her balance on slippery floors and that she has face planted a couple of times (oh my heart!), but that when they take her outside, she’s practically running around. That’s my crazy, eternally youthful Flattie for you! She’s eating and evacuating. Three cheers for poop! And we’ll pick her up after work today.

The surgery was long. The tumor was big and in more soft tissue than expected. She bled a lot. We’ll wait on the pathologist’s report (we’re fortunate in that James’ Godfather is a veterinary pathologist who has offered to do the full pathology for us for free). Right now my focus is on getting her home, comfortable and recovered. We’ll worry about the cancer diagnosis and treatment plan soon enough.

Again, thank you so much for all of your kindness and support. To my fellow Tripawd families, any words of wisdom for our first days home with a new amputee?

In the meantime, enjoy these snaps of three of our beasts the evening before Ursa’s surgery. The girls are rocking their giraffe ensembles courtesy of Mini Rodini. Sunny’s in the Puff Dress Giraffe and Kaki’s in the Long-Sleeved Giraffe body suit.

Hoppy Weekend to all, from Ursa, our hoppy tripawd.
