Gettin’ Jazzy

I decided that it was time to jazz things up a bit on this here blog. Since I moved to the minimalist blog design a few months ago, I thought a fancy, personalized blog header might be just what this space needed to give it that extra zing.

When I landed on Rebekka Seale’s illustrations, I knew immediately that she was the gal for the job. Not only is her style darling, but her cost, unbeatable. She took my idea and ran with it. The fact that she was able to so brilliantly capture Hanna and Ursa‘s distinct looks and personalities with this simple yet lovely design is remarkable. Especially because the two are such similar looking dogs to those that don’t live and breath black retrievers like our black dog obsessed family. I just, I mean… swoon. Thank you, Rebekka!

Here are the various font layouts that Rebekka proposed and I’d LOVE your opinions. So have at it folks, which header are you digging? I know you readers aren’t the most vocal or comment prone, but let’s break that habit, eh? I see that at least a couple hundred of you visit a day – Google analytics is magical that way – so I know that you’re out there.

Tell me what you think – Choice 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5? There are no wrong answers! Promise.

Also, Rebekka is a dear and you should peep her blog. And hire her if you are looking for some unique and sweet illustrations!

Three Years

Three years ago, we were married.

Three years later, we’ve built a family with two beautiful little girls in the place where it all began.

It just gets better and better.

These pictures from our maternity shoot with Kate are like the engagement photos we never had… if I was 30 pounds lighter and not 9 months with child. Details.

James, bebe, thanks for hanging with my crazy for eight years. The words of this poem I wrote you for our wedding day have never been more true. 143.

You are to me…

You are purple mountains and starry night,
winter sky and sun shining bright.

You are calm after storm and spoon in my bed,
my safe harbor and song in my head.

You are smooth sailing and gentle breeze,
sand between my toes and ocean seas.

You are laughter on a dreary day,
ridiculous red and child’s play.

You are adventure and safety net,
my sunrise and my sunset.

You are cheerleader and number one fan,
my rockstar and leading man.

You are cherry-on-top and chocolate chip,
blue sea glass and sailing ship.

You are downy snow and pink sand,
fluffy pillow and marching band.

You are apple cider and orange leaves,
mistletoe and Christmas eves.
perfumed air and flowery tree,
salty breath and warmed sea.

You are my heart and four in one,
sea saw balance and home run.

You are the best that best can be,
You are the very best for me.

Adapted from the children’s book, “You Are To Me,” the book I gifted James on our first Valentine’s Day together.
