Remember The Day // Giveaway

by Ashley Weeks Cart

As I alluded to yesterday, birth order matters. I’d say that most parents would agree that it impacts the number of photos and overall documentation of one’s babyhood, depending on when one is brought into the family.

My mother and I would argue that it also totally influences personality.

First borns, we hog the spotlight. James and I would know. We are both first borns. As are both my parents. When the four of us are together, Kimmy is overwhelmed by the number of strongly opinionated voices demanding that things be done “MY WAY!”

It’s a complex. Really.

As a mother to now a first born and a second born, I’m trying to be sensitive to this and do what I can to commemorate and document Courtland’s babyhood in special ways. Perhaps the documentation won’t be as extensive as her sisters, but I’m hoping that there are at least a few things that she’ll have that are special and different and uniquely hers.

Enter, Remember the Day. When Chloe Marty, graphic designer and genius behind Remember the Day, contacted me about her custom typographic canvases, I was instantly smitten. This was an easy opportunity to create something totally personal and unique for Courtland, marking her arrival into our family on August 10, 2011.

I worked closely with Chloe to craft the text for the canvas. I then snapped a photo of Courtland’s crib area to help her create a color palette that blended with her niche of the bedroom. Then Chloe went to work, and after a couple of drafts, we had this…

And Swoon Town, Boom Town, I loved it. And it now hangs proudly over Miss Kaki’s crib. Pretty perfect, yes?

Best of all, she not only creates canvases for the birth of a baby, but for weddings. And they are outrageously affordable. And so very personal. James and I recently purchased a gift certificate to Chloe’s shop and gifted it to James’ cousin who was married in late December. We love that the couple will get to work one-on-one with Chloe to create a piece for their home that captures the magic of their wedding day. Seriously, I think all future wedding gifts are now taken care of thanks to Remember The Day. And, hey, there’s an easy anniversary present for Jamesy. Win!
