Pumpkin Decor

by Ashley Weeks Cart

The classic use for pumpkins is to carve scary jack-o-lantern faces into them for Halloween, but why can’t you use pumpkins for decorations before the 31st? Um, you can! Here are two ways to use a pumpkin for some festive autumnal decor that doesn’t involve ghosts or goblins. This is Kimmy’s first DIY Wednesday debut – give the girl a round of applause! When it comes to interior design, Kimmy’s got an eye.

Pumpkin Vase Holder

Materials:
Medium sized pumpkin
Knife for cutting off the top
Spoon for scraping out pumpkin insides
Small vase or glass to hold flowers
Flowers of choice
Scissors to trim flowers

Instructions:
1. Cut off the top of the pumpkin how you would if you were to carve a jack-o-lantern
2. Scrape out the seeds and pumpkin flesh so that you are left with an empty pumpkin shell
3. Cut down your flowers so they are just tall enough to peek above the pumpkin
4. Fill vase/cup with water, add flowers, and place inside pumpkin holder
5. Voila! Beautiful autumnal decor. Below is a picture of the white pumpkin vases Ash carved for a friend’s October nuptials!

Pumpkin Lantern

Materials:
Any size pumpkin
Knife for cutting off top of pumpkin
Spoon for scraping out pumpkin insides
Power drill
Tea light

Instructions:
1. Cut off the top of the pumpkin how you would if you were to carve a jack-o-lantern
2. Scrape out the seeds and pumpkin flesh so that you are left with an empty pumpkin shell
3. Choose a drill bit size and drill holes into your pumpkin. You can do uniform lines of holes or keep them randomly spaced.
4. Place a tea light inside pumpkin, put the top of the pumpkin back on, turn of the lights and enjoy the glow!
